The importance of self-reflection
Whilst we are huge advocates of taking action we regard the process of self-reflection as being equally as important to your growth and happiness. This Zenhabit blog articulates really well why reflection is so important.
Science of reflection
Science backs up our view that self-reflection is key to learning. We know we learn from experience and also from our mistakes. However, research has confirmed that without the process of thinking about and evaluating those experiences the learning doesn’t happen. By asking ourselves questions and reflecting on our thoughts and feelings we can capture insights and identify actions that will help us to work through our challenges and identify what we believe will be the best way forward.
Benefits of journaling
Journaling, even if it is for a short period of time, allows you to get your thoughts and feelings out of your head and down on paper (or on screen if you’re a digital journaler). Seeing everything written down provides those magical moments when things start to get clearer. For most, it makes it much easier to think through challenges. That’s why we recommend reflecting as part of your journaling practise on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. Here’s a great Huffington Post article outlining many more journaling benefits!
